Kuka Robot Carves A Double Helix Staircase Shaped Like a Perfect DNA Strand
Amazing Things Happen When Science, Automation and Creativity Come Together.
Remember last month when your wife said: “We need a new staircase, and it NEEDS to be shaped like a DNA strand!” Like a good spouse you trekked through a blizzard, heading to go to the home improvement warehouse to pick up the parts required.
Reading from your shopping list you were like “hmm it looks like I need 23 pieces of 12” x 36” wood for the stair tops, and two giant wooden cork-screws with saw-teeth for the stringers.”
…Low and behold – those things don’t exist! We’re gonna have to go full-custom!
See how art and science is perfectly blended with use of a Kuka robot and some deft programming skills as a CNC controlled router attached to a articulated arm create a mathematically and aesthetically perfect design. Kuha also happens to be a PARTsolutions client, using our Strategic Parts Management software to streamline their engineering processes.
Not impressted by the geometric perfection of the wooden corkscrew? Cheeck out this video of a Kuka Robot carving an organically shaped Octopus!
