Making a Difference: Attendees Participate in “Wish for Wheels” Bike Build at PTDA’s 2018 Industry Summit
CADENAS PARTsolutions CEO, Tim Thomas and Senior VP of Business Development, John McKenney help build bikes for children in low-income communities at PTDA’s annual charity event
At the PTDA 2018 Industry Summit, industry leaders proved there’s never not enough time give back to the community.
CADENAS PARTsolutions CEO Tim Thomas and Senior VP of Business Development John McKenney recently participated in PTDA’s charity event Wish for Wheels Bike Build. The annual charity event supports Wish for Wheels, a nonprofit organization that grants a childhood wish to kids in low-income communities: riding a bike.
While on break between sessions, attendees rolled up their sleeves to assemble bikes for children in a fun and friendly competition. After being divided into teams of four, two members of each team were blindfolded while the other two directed and helped build the bikes. In the end, it was a race to see which team could correctly assemble the bike the fastest.
By blindfolding half of each team, the event mimics the leadership and training adults do for children when they first learn how to ride a bike. And for those who were blindfolded, they were reminded how daunting it once was to take those training wheels off.
“It’s great to connect with others in the industry at events like these, but it’s also great to give time and effort toward something like this that really makes a difference in some kids’ lives,” said John McKenney, Senior VP of Business Development.
The bikes (and helmets) will go to children from low-income families in Colorado Springs, CO, where the Industry Summit was held.
