Watch 3 Engineers & 3 Marketers “Crack the Code” on Viral Pineapple Video
Here’s how to prep a pineapple so you can “rip” off individual pieces.
Who doesn’t love pineapple… or a good engineering puzzle?
This viral pineapple-eating video, however, had us scratching our heads.
Uploaded by a Tik Tok user, the person appears to rip off individual pieces of the pineapple. (If you hate the sound of someone chewing, watch this one on mute). How did they do this? Could this actually be an easier way to eat pineapple?
At CADENAS PARTsolutions, we’re all about finding solutions to complex problems, and we like to have fun while we’re doing it. So, we put a team together and figured out the trick. Here’s how we did it!
Tools you need:
- 1 ripe pineapple
- 1 large kitchen knife
- 1 pocket knife
- Lots of napkins
The Process:
The First Attempt: Cut diagonally into the pineapple along the seed boarders.
Our first idea involved a lot of diagonal cuts. We did out research and knew that the tough skin of the pineapple was the fruit’s berries. So – in theory – cutting diagonally across the pineapple would loosen the berries and enable us to pull them out.
It… didn’t really work as planned. But it was close. We then tried to cut the core from the center, but that was different from the original video. So, it was on to pineapple #2.
Here’s a video of that first attempt:
The Second Attempt: Cut the top off from an angle and use a pocketknife to loosen the seeds.
We first cut the top of the pineapple off. Instead of turning the pineapple on its side to get a nice, clean cut. We cut into it from the top and angled inward. This way, we were able to have a small well in the fruit’s core where the juice pooled.
Then, we used a pocket knife to trim the edges of each seed. The second pineapple wasn’t as ripe as the first or the original video. Therefore, we had to cut a little deeper to loosen them. When we tried to pull the berries off…
… Success!
Here are some images and a video below that (might) help demonstrate how we did this.
1. Cut the top off at an angle.
2. Cut the berries apart (don’t go too deep unless your pineapple isn’t too ripe).

3. Rip and enjoy!
So, is this an easier way to cut and eat pineapple?
From our efforts, no. The only circumstance in which this method would be best is a) if a person has a very ripe pineapple, b) that person also has a pocket knife, and c) he or she also plans to eat the whole pineapple.
While the original video did make us laugh, we don’t recommend this method to cut pineapple or any other fruit. But, we do recommend it as a fun, lunch-time brain teaser.
