Cincinnati, OH June 10, 2013

CADENAS PARTsolutions today announced the launch of the new PARTcommunity for PTC, offering the world’s largest online catalog of CAD models in native formats of PTC® Creo® design software. The community portal gives mechanical design engineers instant access to configure and download millions of certified native 3D models from over 400 industrial supplier catalogs, at no cost to the engineer.

View the portal: http://ptc.partcommunity.com.

“The launch of PARTcommunity for PTC marks another giant stride in providing our PTC Creo customers with the best tools and resources to help make their jobs easier,” said Brian Thompson, VP Product Management, PTC. “CADENAS helps us deliver the exceptional value our customers have come to expect.”

Engineers can search supplier catalogs for the exact component part they need, configure product options, see an interactive 3D preview and then download the model for insertion into their PTC Creo environment.

“These capabilities save engineers a significant amount of time and cut down on design cycles,” said Walter Leder, VP of CADENAS. “It’s all about the total customer experience. That’s a philosophy we share with PTC and we look forward to continuing to work with the PTC team to provide the best solutions to engineers everywhere.”

In addition to the online engineering portal, CADENAS will also be working closely with PTC to deliver additional complementary solutions.

DALLAS, TX – June 4 , 2013 - The CADENAS PARTsolutions® team is showing off the world’s largest online catalog of 3D CAD models in native Solid Edge® formats at the Siemens PLM World annual user conference today. The online portal, powered by CADENAS PARTsolutions technology, offers mechanical engineers instant access to configure and download millions of certified native 3D Solid Edge models from over 400 industrial supplier catalogs, at no cost to the engineer.

View the Siemens Solid Edge 3D CAD Models portal: http://solidedge.partcommunity.com

Engineers can search supplier catalogs for the exact component part they need, configure product options, see an interactive 3D preview and then download the 3D CAD models for direct insertion into their Solid Edge environment.

CADENAS PARTsolutions developed the supplier parts catalog web portal for Solid Edge software in partnership with Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services.

The portal provides access to a massive number of commercially available and purchasable components and assemblies, in 3D CAD Models in native Solid Edge format. Eliminating the time needed to manually model purchased, supplier or catalog parts, the new online catalog helps Solid Edge customers significantly improve product design productivity, quality and time-to-market.

“We’ve partnered with Siemens to put millions of of supplier parts at the fingertips of engineer, all for free. This makes their jobs easier and enables them to spend more time on value-added design, rather than waste precious engineering time searching for or redrawing supplier parts,” said Jay Hopper, VP Marketing for CADENAS PARTsolutions.

To ensure investment protection for users working with earlier versions of Solid Edge, Siemens PLM Software and CADENAS have made sure the 3D CAD models created through the new web portal are accessible to customers using versions as far back as Solid Edge 17. In addition, customers upgrading to Solid Edge ST4 will benefit from having a link to the portal from the main Solid Edge startup screen.

Back to the point, Squidward! Scientists have designed these robotic invertebrates to be roaming armies of gelatinous undersea spies! See how they can revolutionize military intelligence tactics, while simultaneously putting “living blobs” on the unemployment line!

Side note: I’m personal friends with a jellyfish who’s been out of work for weeks. He tells me, employers think he’s “spineless” and can “see-through” his confident facade. It’s terribly sad.

More About The Robo-Jellyfish

Virginia Tech College of Engineering researchers have unveiled a life-like, autonomous robotic jellyfish the size and weight of a grown man, 5 foot 7 inches in length and weighing 170 pounds, as part of a U.S. Navy-funded project.

The prototype robot, nicknamed Cyro, is a larger model of a robotic jellyfish the same team – headed by Shashank Priya of Blacksburg, Va., and professor of mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech – unveiled in 2012. The earlier robot, dubbed RoboJelly, is roughly the size of a man’s hand, and typical of jellyfish found along beaches.

“A larger vehicle will allow for more payload, longer duration, and longer range of operation,” said Alex Villanueva of St-Jacques, New-Brunswick, Canada, and a doctoral student in mechanical engineering working under Priya. “Biological and engineering results show that larger vehicle have a lower cost of transport, which is a metric used to determine how much energy is spent for traveling.”

Cincinnati, OH – May 17, 2013 – CADENAS PARTsolutions, a global eCatalog provider of online sales configurators; and Radar Industrial, Brazil’s leading publisher of industrial trade publications, have launched a new cooperative partnership which enables Radar to deliver the full suite of PARTsolutions digital marketing services to industrial manufacturers in South America. Radar Industrial is expanding their media offerings to fill a need in the Brazilian market for high quality digital catalogs and downloadable CAD models which engineers have to come to expect from component manufacturers. This powerful new technology offering enables manufacturers to have their products “designed in” or specified into the engineering process, pulling sales through the engineering department.

As one of the largest industrial media outlets in Brazil, Radar Industrial helps companies expand their business with marketing and promotional services targeting the quickly growing South American manufacturing market. Helping those businesses keep pace with the world’s engineering trends is a service they have long offered their customers. An emerging trend seen by manufacturers in Asia, Europe and the Americas is the delivery of downloadable 3D CAD models for distribution online through various outlets. As the market quickly progresses to a digital, on-demand environment, engineers seek these configurable CAD models to specify manufactured parts into their product designs. This expedites the engineers design process, adds accuracy to the design and enables the manufacturer to reach a larger audience of prospective customers.

For more than 20 years, eCatalog provider CADENAS PARTsolutions has specialized in helping industrial manufacturers increase revenue and find new qualified sales leads by building digital catalogs to promote a company’s parts and products. These parts are configurable online and can be downloaded in more than 150 2D and 3D CAD and graphic formats, ensuring maximum customer satisfaction. These models are distributed on the manufacturer’s website, as well as Radar Industrial’s new PARTcommunity and more than 50 other engineering portals worldwide, giving manufacturers instant access to a global community of engineers and parts buyers.

“Radar is dedicated to helping Brazil’s industrial manufacturers increase their revenue and reach a greater audience with our portfolio of print and online marketing solutions” says Fernando Lopes, Executive Director at Radar Industrial. “By expanding our offering to include digital online catalogs with CAD downloads by CADENAS PARTsolutions, our customers can now take advantage of the technology used by the world’s leading manufacturers, enabling them to further enhance their marketing effectiveness and sales lead generation.”

Radar Industrial has partnered with CADENAS PARTsolutions to deliver their technology and products within the Brazil marketplace as well as other territories in South America, offering the full suite of marketing and engineering services to their manufacturing clients.

“CADENAS PARTsolutions has seen a growing opportunity for our suite of products in Brazil,” adds Rob Zesch, President and COO of CADENAS PARTsolutions. “Manufacturing and exports are booming, and companies are looking for innovative ways to better serve their existing customers, as well as methods to reach a broader worldwide audience. Radar along with CADENAS PARTsolutions, can offer South American manufacturers world-class technology to help them reach more customers and grow their business.”

How many times have you been looking for a precise product to fit a specific need by leafing through the pages of a printed product catalog? Once discovering a suitable candidate you find the printed catalog lacks some of the precise details and pricing which would enable a quick decision. The subsequent steps to confirm the part are cumbersome. Email or phone the company sales rep to find pricing and additional specs. Contact their engineering team to confirm fitment and wait to get a CAD model sent to you for the design. There must be a better way.

With a “Smart Catalog” using CADENAS PARTsolutions eCATALOG software the process is simplified to a few clicks with a smart phone. Component manufacturers can link their catalog pages with live product details and CAD models utilizing QR codes, reducing an engineer’s specifying process from hours to seconds

Print catalog + Smartphone = Smart Catalog

A Smart Catalog is made possible by integrating 2 QR codes into the product pages of a print catalog. The first QR code contains the proprietary information about the product. The second QR code is linked to the configurable options for the product and enables instant generation of the 3D CAD model via CADENAS PARTsolutions eCATALOG Software .

Once the desired configuration is achieved, engineers can automatically have the model sent to their e-mail address in their preferred CAD format. When a user reads both QR codes in the printed catalog, the selected configuration is created automatically. The companies purchasing agent is automatically sent a request for a quote and the engineer immediately receives the 3D CAD model by e-mail.

Be the Technological Innovator

Integrating this time and money saving technology allows a component manufacturer’s print catalog to be tailored to the specific individual needs of their engineers and buyers. In addition to the customer benefits, the eCATALOG software implementation places a company on the leading edge of manufacturing trends, becoming an industry leader and technological innovator.

What the heck is PARTS MANAGEMENT, and what’s it good for anyway?

Often times we find that we use “standard” vernacular, industry buzzwords, fancy “lingo” or “slang” which we think has a clear definition, but has various meanings to our peers. This not only applies to phraseology but also key concepts within our field. PARTS MANAGEMENT is one of these concepts which has many meanings within many organizations – few of them are consistent with one another.

We asked our industry expert and CEO, Tim Thomas, to take a few minutes and break Parts Management down to it’s core building blocks, explain the problem and offer some insight into some possible opportunities for organizations to increase their bottom line by streamlining their engineering methodology.

EXCERPT: What is Parts Management?

Selecting, specifying, ensuring proper applications and managing parts in general makes for a major engineering task. Parts are the building blocks from which systems are created and, as such, greatly impact product dependability and market success.

Since the reliability and maintainability of the end product is dependent upon these building blocks, managing the digital parts information with a Parts Management System is essential for success.

Parts Management is the practice of considering the application, standardization, technology (new and aging), system reliability, maintainability, supportability and cost in selecting parts and addressing availability, logistics support and legacy issues in supporting them throughout the life of the systems.

CADENAS PARTsolutions is proud to announce our 2012 Customer Success, celebrating 20 years in the software business. The free book highlights some of our greatest success in 2012, including case studies, industry forum, international events and more.

When CADENAS was founded 20 years ago from an engineering office, nobody could imagine that it would develop to one of the most significant software companies in the field of engineering and purchasing, within two decades.

In spite of our 20th anniversary we never tire of continually realizing new ideas and innovations.

Download 2012 Customer Success

Here are a few examples of the innovations in 2012:

Mobile Apps: Implementation of the new Cadenas app for 3D CAD models, which was not only of great interest to many component manufacturers but also reached the entry into the finals of the 12 most “App-reciated” apps for automation.

Geosearch and Intelligent Finding: Many new search functions in PARTsolutions are, under the keyword “Intelligent Finding”, a real alternative to the pure classification in companies. This way long search times for engineering and procurement belong to the past.

We’re headed into 2013 with many new ideas and look forward to another successful year with our partners!

On May 2, 2013, construction crews finally hoisted a 22 ton, 408 ft section atop the roof of One World Trade Center reaching it’s full height of 1776 feet. One World Trade Center has been under construction since 2006 and is in honor of the fallen “Twin Towers” of the original World Trade Center on Manhattan Island in New York City.

See a time-lapse video of the spire being hoisted skyward

At 541 meters One World Trade Center is now the tallest building in the western hemisphere, and more specifically it is the tallest building not in the middle east, where skyscrapers are reaching unprecedented heights.

Just how tall is the tallest building? Check out the diagram below of the tallest buildings on earth in the year 2020. The scale diagram includes some still under construction, including “Kingdom Tower” which will stand at exactly 1 Km! One World Trade Center is highlighted in blue and comes in at #12 in the worlds tallest of 2020.

For reference, we have added the real Eiffel Tower in Paris, France as well as the fake Eiffel Tower at Kings Island in Cincinnati, Ohio. (It seems pretty tall to us cow-tippers!)
